You'll need an amplifier

These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (4–8Ω, 60–240W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.

Need a fire hood?

If the ceiling has a bedroom or other living space above it, or is part of an escape route, building regulations require each speaker to have a fire hood. Hoods also cut sound leaking into the room above.

Need speaker cable?

Stereo from a single speaker needs a 4-core cable (left and right channels on one run). Allow about 10m back to the amplifier. Webro 16/4 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.

The Monitor Audio C2L-T2X is a large-format in-ceiling speaker built for rooms that demand serious scale and flexibility. Whether you're fitting out a spacious living room, a home cinema, or a commercial space such as a restaurant or shop, this single speaker can be configured to suit the application thanks to its switchable operating modes.

Why we like it

  • 9" RST II dual-coil bass driver delivers deep, distortion-free low end
  • Twin 1.25" C-CAM tweeters with UD Waveguide spread detailed treble evenly around the room
  • Three selectable modes: Cinema Mono FX (di-pole), Mono Wide Dispersion (bi-pole) and Single Speaker Stereo
  • Quik-Link connector and Tri-Grip II fixing system make for a quick, secure install
  • Optional square grille offers an alternative finish to suit the room's decor

Installation notes

The C2L-T2X requires a 248mm diameter cut-out and a mounting depth of 99mm, so check ceiling void clearance before installing. In Stereo mode it presents an 8 ohm load, ideal for pairing with a compact streaming amplifier such as a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp; in Mono mode it runs at 4 ohm and benefits from a higher-powered amplifier to make the most of its 240W handling.

Questions we get asked

Does it come with a grille?
Yes. Every ceiling and in-wall speaker we sell comes with its grille in the box. Manufacturer photos often show the speaker with the grille removed so you can see the drivers, but the grille is always included.
Will it fit my ceiling?
You'll need a 248mm cut-out and at least 99mm of depth behind the ceiling surface. The visible trim is 278mm across. Standard plasterboard ceilings with joists are usually fine; check for pipes, cables and insulation before cutting. Not sure? Send us a photo or plan and we'll check it for you.
Do I need an amplifier?
Yes. These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier or AV receiver to drive them. They're rated at 4–8Ω with 60–240W recommended amplifier power. For most rooms a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp is ideal: each drives a pair and streams from your phone. You can also buy a package with the amp included and save 5%.
Do I need a fire hood?
If there's a habitable room above (for example a bedroom), or the ceiling forms part of a fire escape route, Building Regulations require each speaker to be fire-rated, usually with a fire hood fitted over the back. The hood that fits this speaker is shown above, next to Add to cart. Hoods also cut sound travelling to the room above. See all fire hoods.
How many speakers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a pair for most bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms up to about 20m², two pairs for large open-plan spaces, and a single stereo speaker (T2 / stereo models) for small rooms like en-suites. For home cinema, use 5 or 7 speakers plus a subwoofer. Our free design service will plan positions and sizes from your floorplan.
Can I return it?
Yes. Unused items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and every product carries the full manufacturer warranty. Returns & warranty.
