You'll need an amplifier

These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (8Ω, 10–125W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.

Need a fire hood?

If the ceiling has a bedroom or other living space above it, or is part of an escape route, building regulations require each speaker to have a fire hood. Hoods also cut sound leaking into the room above.

Need speaker cable?

Allow about 10m per speaker for a typical run back to the amplifier. Webro 16/2 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.

The KEF Ci200.2CR is an 8-inch in-ceiling speaker built for anyone wanting serious sound quality without visible hardware. It's equally at home delivering cinema-grade surround in a living room, filling a kitchen or conservatory with background music, or providing distributed audio throughout a shop, office or restaurant.

Why we like it

  • KEF's Uni-Q driver array positions the tweeter at the acoustic centre of the woofer for remarkably even, wide dispersion
  • Tangerine waveguide sharpens high-frequency detail while shielding the tweeter from damage
  • IP64 rating gives peace of mind in damp or dusty locations such as covered outdoor areas or utility spaces
  • Ultra-thin bezel and paintable magnetic grille disappear into any ceiling finish
  • Shallow mounting depth makes it easier to fit into tight ceiling voids

Installation notes

With a mounting depth of 97.2mm and a cut-out diameter of 240mm, the Ci200.2CR suits most standard ceiling cavities. Being a passive design, it needs an external amplifier; a two-channel amp capable of delivering up to 125W per channel into 8 ohms is recommended, and it pairs well with amplifiers such as the Sonos Amp or a WiiM Amp for streaming-based setups. An optional rear enclosure (RNC200R) and rough-in frame (RIF200R) are available for improved acoustic isolation and simpler installation.

Questions we get asked

Does it come with a grille?
Yes. Every ceiling and in-wall speaker we sell comes with its grille in the box. Manufacturer photos often show the speaker with the grille removed so you can see the drivers, but the grille is always included.
Will it fit my ceiling?
You'll need a 240mm cut-out and at least 97mm of depth behind the ceiling surface. The visible trim is 290mm across. Standard plasterboard ceilings with joists are usually fine; check for pipes, cables and insulation before cutting. Not sure? Send us a photo or plan and we'll check it for you.
Do I need an amplifier?
Yes. These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier or AV receiver to drive them. They're rated at 8Ω with 10–125W recommended amplifier power. For most rooms a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp is ideal: each drives a pair and streams from your phone. You can also buy a package with the amp included and save 5%.
Do I need a fire hood?
If there's a habitable room above (for example a bedroom), or the ceiling forms part of a fire escape route, Building Regulations require each speaker to be fire-rated, usually with a fire hood fitted over the back. The hood that fits this speaker is shown above, next to Add to cart. Hoods also cut sound travelling to the room above. See all fire hoods.
How many speakers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a pair for most bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms up to about 20m², two pairs for large open-plan spaces, and a single stereo speaker (T2 / stereo models) for small rooms like en-suites. For home cinema, use 5 or 7 speakers plus a subwoofer. Our free design service will plan positions and sizes from your floorplan.
Is it sold singly or as a pair?
Priced per speaker. Add the quantity you need; most rooms use a pair.
When will it arrive?
Orders placed by 1pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day. Standard tracked delivery is £7.99, or free on orders over £50; next working day delivery is £11.99. Delivery details.
Can I return it?
Yes. Unused items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and every product carries the full manufacturer warranty. Returns & warranty.
