You'll need an amplifier

These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (8Ω, 10–100W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.

Need a fire hood?

If the ceiling has a bedroom or other living space above it, or is part of an escape route, building regulations require each speaker to have a fire hood. Hoods also cut sound leaking into the room above.

Need speaker cable?

Allow about 10m per speaker for a typical run back to the amplifier. Webro 16/2 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.

The KEF Ci160.2CS is a 6.5" square in-ceiling speaker from KEF's C Series, designed for clean, flush installs in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and home cinemas. Its shallow 84.5mm mounting depth lets it fit where many 6.5" speakers won't, and its IP64 rating means it handles steamy bathrooms and splashes with ease.

Why we like it

  • KEF's Uni-Q driver array places the 16mm aluminium dome tweeter at the acoustic centre of the 160mm woofer, giving smooth, even sound across the whole room
  • Tangerine waveguide widens high-frequency dispersion to 120°, so fewer speakers cover more space
  • IP64 certified with weather-resistant, UV-protected components: ideal for bathrooms, kitchens and covered outdoor areas
  • Ultra-Thin Bezel and paintable magnetic grille (with paint shield) disappear into any ceiling
  • Uses KEF's universal 194mm square cut-out shared by all 160mm square models, so it's easy to upgrade later

Installation notes

Allow a square cut-out of 194 x 194mm and a mounting depth of 84.5mm. The overall size is 223 x 223mm. An optional KEF RIF160S rough-in frame and RNC160S rear enclosure are available. As a passive 8 ohm speaker, the Ci160.2CS pairs well with a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp for streaming multi-room setups, or with a traditional AV receiver.

Questions we get asked

Does it come with a grille?
Yes. Every ceiling and in-wall speaker we sell comes with its grille in the box. Manufacturer photos often show the speaker with the grille removed so you can see the drivers, but the grille is always included.
Will it fit my ceiling?
You'll need a 194mm cut-out and at least 85mm of depth behind the ceiling surface. The visible trim is 223mm across. Standard plasterboard ceilings with joists are usually fine; check for pipes, cables and insulation before cutting. Not sure? Send us a photo or plan and we'll check it for you.
Do I need an amplifier?
Yes. These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier or AV receiver to drive them. They're rated at 8Ω with 10–100W recommended amplifier power. For most rooms a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp is ideal: each drives a pair and streams from your phone. You can also buy a package with the amp included and save 5%.
Do I need a fire hood?
If there's a habitable room above (for example a bedroom), or the ceiling forms part of a fire escape route, Building Regulations require each speaker to be fire-rated, usually with a fire hood fitted over the back. The hood that fits this speaker is shown above, next to Add to cart. Hoods also cut sound travelling to the room above. See all fire hoods.
How many speakers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a pair for most bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms up to about 20m², two pairs for large open-plan spaces, and a single stereo speaker (T2 / stereo models) for small rooms like en-suites. For home cinema, use 5 or 7 speakers plus a subwoofer. Our free design service will plan positions and sizes from your floorplan.
Is it sold singly or as a pair?
Priced per speaker. Add the quantity you need; most rooms use a pair.
When will it arrive?
Orders placed by 1pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day. Standard tracked delivery is £7.99, or free on orders over £50; next working day delivery is £11.99. Delivery details.
Can I return it?
Yes. Unused items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and every product carries the full manufacturer warranty. Returns & warranty.
