You'll need an amplifier
These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (6Ω, 20–65W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.
Need speaker cable?
Allow about 10m per speaker for a typical run back to the amplifier. Webro 16/2 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.

Installation notes
The W165 requires a cut-out of 332 x 213mm and a mounting depth of 92mm, so check wall cavity depth before installing. Overall dimensions including the grille are 370 x 250mm with a depth of 96mm. A pre-construction bracket (WB6) is available for new-build projects. These speakers pair well with a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp for streaming-based multi-room or home cinema setups, with the recommended amplifier power sitting between 20-65W per channel.

Questions we get asked
Does it come with a grille?
Yes. Every ceiling and in-wall speaker we sell comes with its grille in the box. Manufacturer photos often show the speaker with the grille removed so you can see the drivers, but the grille is always included.
Will it fit my wall?
You'll need at least 92mm of depth behind the wall surface. Standard plasterboard ceilings with joists are usually fine; check for pipes, cables and insulation before cutting. Not sure? Send us a photo or plan and we'll check it for you.
Do I need an amplifier?
Yes. These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier or AV receiver to drive them. They're rated at 6Ω with 20–65W recommended amplifier power. For most rooms a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp is ideal: each drives a pair and streams from your phone. You can also buy a package with the amp included and save 5%.
How many speakers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a pair for most bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms up to about 20m², two pairs for large open-plan spaces, and a single stereo speaker (T2 / stereo models) for small rooms like en-suites. For home cinema, use 5 or 7 speakers plus a subwoofer. Our free design service will plan positions and sizes from your floorplan.
