Monitor Audio IV140 Invisible In-Wall Speaker
These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (8Ω, 20–50W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.
Optional: the WBIV140 pre-construction bracket marks and holds the speaker position before the plasterboard goes up.
Allow about 10m per speaker for a typical run back to the amplifier. Webro 16/2 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.
The Monitor Audio IV140 is an invisible in-wall and in-ceiling speaker designed to be fully plastered over, leaving no visible grille or speaker face once finished. It is suited to rooms where a completely seamless, unobtrusive wall or ceiling finish is the priority, such as living spaces, hallways or feature walls where conventional grilles are undesirable.
Why we like it
- Fits into conventional 4" stud bays and disappears entirely once skimmed with plaster, paint, light wallpaper or fabric
- Two-way design with one low-frequency transducer and two high-frequency transducers for punchy bass and a wide, crystal-clear frequency range
- Integrated crossover delivers smoother overall balance and character
- Rigid MDF back box isolates sound and minimises leakage into adjoining rooms
- Automatic re-setting PTC circuit breakers protect against overload and allow the system to cool before resuming normal operation
Installation notes
The IV140 is fixed in place with self-tapping screws and connects via gold-plated sprung push-type terminals. It is built around a 9mm MDF construction with an integrated back box, and requires a cut-out of 591 x 350.5mm within a standard 4" stud bay, with a mounting depth of 94mm and an overall depth (including grille) of 106mm. An optional WBIV140 pre-construction bracket is available separately for installations where the speaker position needs to be set before the wall or ceiling is finished. The nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with a recommended amplifier output of 20-50W (full range) or up to 100W when used with a minimum 80Hz high-pass filter.
