KEF Ci250RRM-THX 10" 3-Way THX Ultra In-Ceiling Speaker
These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (8Ω, 50–250W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.
Allow about 10m per speaker for a typical run back to the amplifier. Webro 16/2 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.
The KEF Ci250RRM-THX is KEF's first architectural speaker with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT). A 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array sits in front of a 10in bass driver to make a true three-way coaxial in-ceiling speaker, with the scale and bass extension for large home cinemas and living rooms.
Why we like it
- Three-way coaxial design: 10in bass driver plus 4in Uni-Q midrange with a MAT-equipped tweeter
- Metamaterial Absorption Technology absorbs 99% of unwanted sound from the back of the tweeter for cleaner, more natural treble
- Bass extension down to 28Hz (±6dB), so it can work without a subwoofer in many rooms
- THX Certified Ultra and IP64 rated
- Ultra-Thin Bezel and paintable magnetic grille
Installation notes
The Ci250RRM-THX needs a 300mm round cut-out and 168mm of mounting depth from the surface, so check ceiling void depth before you buy. KEF recommends an ideal rear volume of 150 litres (80 litres minimum). It is an 8 ohm speaker with 50-250W recommended amplifier power, so it suits an AV receiver or dedicated power amplifier.
