You'll need an amplifier

These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (8Ω, 25–80W/ch recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.

Need a fire hood?

If the ceiling has a bedroom or other living space above it, or is part of an escape route, building regulations require each speaker to have a fire hood. Hoods also cut sound leaking into the room above.

Need speaker cable?

Stereo from a single speaker needs a 4-core cable (left and right channels on one run). Allow about 10m back to the amplifier. Webro 16/4 LSZH (low smoke, zero halogen) is the right cable for runs in ceilings and walls.

The Bowers & Wilkins CCM664SR is a dual-channel in-ceiling speaker that delivers genuine stereo sound from a single mounting point, making it an excellent choice for bathrooms, hallways, kitchens, and any room where fitting a conventional stereo pair isn't practical. Drawing on B&W's studio monitor heritage, it combines precise engineering with a design that blends unobtrusively into any ceiling.

Why we like it

  • Full stereo imaging from one compact ceiling unit, saving on installation complexity
  • Two-way design pairs a 150mm woven glass fibre bass/midrange cone with dual 20mm soft dome tweeters for detailed, balanced sound
  • Stereo/Surround switch adds flexibility for use in multi-room or home cinema surround setups
  • QuickDogs tool-free fixing system makes for quick, secure installation
  • Low-profile bezel and magnetic, paintable grille sit flush for a near-invisible finish

Installation notes

The CCM664SR requires a 202mm cut-out and a mounting depth of 133mm behind the ceiling surface, with the bezel protruding just 4mm once fitted. A pre-mounting kit (PMKC6) and optional back box (BB 6C) are available to simplify first-fix and improve acoustic performance in open ceiling voids. As a single-speaker stereo solution, it pairs well with compact streaming amplifiers such as a WiiM Amp or Sonos Amp, giving you full stereo playback without running a pair of speakers and cable runs to a single zone.

Questions we get asked

Does it come with a grille?
Yes. Every ceiling and in-wall speaker we sell comes with its grille in the box. Manufacturer photos often show the speaker with the grille removed so you can see the drivers, but the grille is always included.
Will it fit my ceiling?
You'll need a 202mm cut-out and at least 133mm of depth behind the ceiling surface. The visible trim is 240mm across. Standard plasterboard ceilings with joists are usually fine; check for pipes, cables and insulation before cutting. Not sure? Send us a photo or plan and we'll check it for you.
Do I need an amplifier?
Yes. These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier or AV receiver to drive them. They're rated at 8Ω with 25–80W/ch recommended amplifier power. For most rooms a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp is ideal: each drives a pair and streams from your phone. You can also buy a package with the amp included and save 5%.
Do I need a fire hood?
If there's a habitable room above (for example a bedroom), or the ceiling forms part of a fire escape route, Building Regulations require each speaker to be fire-rated, usually with a fire hood fitted over the back. The hood that fits this speaker is shown above, next to Add to cart. Hoods also cut sound travelling to the room above. See all fire hoods.
How many speakers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a pair for most bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms up to about 20m², two pairs for large open-plan spaces, and a single stereo speaker (T2 / stereo models) for small rooms like en-suites. For home cinema, use 5 or 7 speakers plus a subwoofer. Our free design service will plan positions and sizes from your floorplan.
Is it sold singly or as a pair?
Priced per speaker. Add the quantity you need; most rooms use a pair.
When will it arrive?
Orders placed by 1pm Monday to Friday are dispatched the same day. Standard tracked delivery is £7.99, or free on orders over £50; next working day delivery is £11.99. Delivery details.
Can I return it?
Yes. Unused items can be returned within 30 days of delivery, and every product carries the full manufacturer warranty. Returns & warranty.
