These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier to power them (6Ω, 150W recommended). Either of these will drive a pair and stream music from your phone.
Need speaker cable?
Outdoor runs need burial-grade cable. Allow about 10m per speaker for the pair. QED QX16/2 PE has a water and UV resistant jacket and can be buried without conduit.
The Monitor Audio Climate CL2 S is a compact two-way, wall-mountable outdoor speaker from the Climate Series 3G range, finished in black and sold as a pair. Its diminutive cabinet belies a genuinely high-fidelity performance, making it a versatile choice for patios, terraces and other exterior listening areas, as well as weather-protected interior spaces.

Installation notes
The Climate CL2 S is a wall-mounted speaker (not a ceiling/in-wall model), fitted using the supplied die-cast 'Quik-Link' bracket system rather than a cut-out, so no ceiling aperture or recessed mounting depth applies. Overall external dimensions with all accessories fitted are 247 x 140 x 217mm (H x W x D). Nominal impedance is 6Ω, with a minimum impedance of 4.9Ω across 20Hz–20kHz, so pair with an amplifier capable of driving a 6Ω load. Monitor Audio recommends an amplifier power of up to 150W RMS for this model. Supplied and sold in pairs.

Do I need an amplifier?
Yes. These are passive speakers, so they need an amplifier or AV receiver to drive them. They're rated at 6Ω with 150W recommended amplifier power. For most rooms a Sonos Amp or WiiM Amp is ideal: each drives a pair and streams from your phone. You can also buy a package with the amp included and save 5%.
How many speakers do I need?
As a rule of thumb: a pair for most bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms up to about 20m², two pairs for large open-plan spaces, and a single stereo speaker (T2 / stereo models) for small rooms like en-suites.
